First I want to thank Michele for allowing me to share my story with you all. My name is Becky, I'm Hunters (4yrs) mamma, thats what he calls me :-)
I had my aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve on October of 1999. I was told that I had rheumatic fever as a child and had a lot of tests done and remember being told that I would eventually need to have heart surgery. Of coarse I assumed it would be when I would be 60/70 yrs of age...I did not take of myself, becoming a teenager I drank, smoked cigarrettes, I experienced with all sorts of drugs and took my health for granted. It was not until 1998 that I experienced chest pains like never before. I went to visit the doctor and he asked if I had seen a cardioligst about my heart murmur. I said "No" so then I was referred to the cardioligst that I currently see once a year now. They ran so many test and to make a long story short we were told that I would have to have heart surgery. I had my St. Jude valve put in and went on with my life with my husband like normal.
