Okay, since it is just us girls in here, I feel a bit free to talk about this. My period. Before coumadin, my period would arrive with a simple little drop. However now, it makes it's entrance with a gush.
This morning, I woke up to pains that alerted me that today was the day to break out the tampons, but it wasn't until I got out of bed that I felt the flood. And as I walked to the bathroom, I started to sing, "I'm a little teapot short and stout..." Yes, the start of my period is much messier and much more intense than the old days (pre-coumadin).
So to get a conversation going, how about the rest of you coumadin users? How is your period different now vs before coumadin?
Had to leave work the other day due to an "accident". Never, ever happened before coumadin. Also, my period is much less predictable. 30 days this month, 35 the next.

Hey Guys,
I never experienced anything abnormal with T.O.M. after coumadin. I was always regular and heavy with my periods, and it didn't change after my valve surgery. Two years after my son was born I did have a hysterctomy due to the fact that my uterus never went back to its normal size. Has the doctor agreed that your heavy periods are due to the coumadin? Keep us posted~~Becky

I wish I could comment on the differences between pre-Coumadin and post-Coumadin during your period. However, I was already on Coumadin when I started my period. It was the worst time of my life considering I would have to take at least two days off of school and basically sit on the toilet for what would feel like hours, just to feel better. I always thought I was going to lose large amounts of blood. I know that sounds not too pleasant but everyone used to tell me it wasn't really like that. I quickly went on the pill. I know we're not really supposed to do that because of added risk, but SORRY...I couldn't handle it anymore. The day I come off the pill I will probably lose it..and spend many more hours on the toilet. I just felt it was better controlled and less uncomfortable on pill, it decreased to a "normal" period. Plus I don't spend as much money on Super tampons which I was using one every hour or less. Ahh. So that's my take on it...

Ok, This is interesting. I havent had my valve replaced yet and I am still debating over the mechanical or tissue. I was just thinking about this very topic the other day. How come doctors dont bring this up when talking about coumadin?? At least no doctor I have talked to mentioned anything about it. Well I guess this answers the question then.. coumadin and periods = increase flow. I guess it makes sense doesnt it.. :-)

Like Wendy, I've never known flo without coumdin, and she's always been a bitch. Also like Wendy, I opted for the pill to help manage things despite the added risk for clotting. I was on the pill for about 11 years without incident, and flo was well under control. Now it's back to SEVERAL tampon changes with pads for added protection throughout the day, for the first few days. Sometimes despite super plus and a diaper at night, I wake up in a small pool of blood - no kidding. And they say the average cycle produces 1/4 cup of blood right? Are you f'ing kidding me!!!
