Hi Karen and thanks for posting. There are studies that I've found but they are few and far between ... and I don't even know if they focus on the method of delivery. I'm not a doctor but from what I read (which is just basic google researching), the concern with BAV and pregnancy is in the hormonal changes during the third trimeseter, so vaginal delivery shouldn't effect that. But there may be a need for antibiotics ... same as any other procedure with blood.

That's just based on what I found and read ... but I agree with you that common sense and logic would suggest that c-section would be easier. Just haven't found anything written that says that.

I'm so glad you posted. Gives me hope ... I'm a BAVer too. Haven't tried to get pregnant yet. Trying to enjoy newlywedhood. Keep us posted!!!

Hi Karen! You and I have different heart issues (I have mitral regurg), so I don't know how helpful I can be, but, I am offering my two cents anyway. When I was pregnant, my doctors were not terribly concerned with the delivery. They were more concerned with how my heart would handle the extra blood that your body produces during pregnancy (which peaks around 30 weeks). Anyhoo, the doctors never seemed to think that a c-section was even something I needed to consider (any more than anyone else anyway). One doctor suggested a "shortened second stage," which basically means that I would not push - they let the baby come through the birth canal on its own and then pull it out with forceps. But, the other doctors did not agree that this was necessary and they all decided to just "wait and see" how I was doing during labor. In fact, my high-risk OB even decided not to give me antibiotics during labor unless I got an infection (which I did). (My cardiologist, by the way, was not thrilled with this approach, but it ended up being fine.) I ended up having a vaginal delivery - although I did need help from the forceps, but only because after pushing for 2 1/2 hours, Colin's giant head was just not budging!

Good luck with everything! Have you had the fetal echo yet? I hope all is well with the baby!
