Michele,
This is SO like Christmas! I still can't get over that after a long time of searching for gals like you..you're all right here. I have always wanted to connect with women facing these valve/pregnancy issues; knowing that you all have similar questions/struggles. It means so much knowing that you all can relate - when I've felt like I have been on my own island for a while..not feeling sorry for myself as much as just feeling pretty alone. Thanks so much for sharing your journal entries Michele. Can I ask you..if not being on the wonderful path to adoption, would you consider pregnancy with your mechanical valve, or personally are the risks too high for you? I have got to connect with Becky to find out the details of her valve pregnancies. I'm still not 100% decided against it, I'm in the 90's. The shots really did stink for the 11 weeks that I took them while I was pregnant, but that wasn't as bad as the fear I had every day that I was going to clot..every time I had a bad headache I literally thought I was going to die. It would have really helped to have a touch stone..someone to talk to who had been through a mech. valve pregnancy. I would really love to connect with you to find out some details from the Dr's you spoke with about the issue. They sound pretty confident, and I didn't know there was an OB out there who specializes in valve pregnancies. When I was pregnant I couldn't help but to feel nervous that my OB didn't have the experience and my cario. had not had a patient in 10 years. I think the part that I have the most confusion about is delivery. It seems like they would want you off anticoagulation for the shortest period of time, and perfect if everything can be planned (c-section), but what if you go into pre-mature labor, and you're still on Coumadin for instance? I never got to those questions with my Dr.'s. After losing the baby I just had to get my head out of the subject for a while, but now I want more info. Sorry for the long post..just free thought.
